A(n) Board Meeting presented by WBA at Private
The meeting was called to order at 6:43 pm. In attendance were President Bob Vallor, Vice President Jack Whisler, Treasurer Bryn Black, and Secretary Sibylle Wilbert. Board Members Brian Palm and Dave Shaw attended by phone. Athletes’ Representative Sean Kato, Board Members Cory Hoeger and Mike Kamansky, and website administrator Greg Daly were unable to attend.
All attending had seen the minutes from the last Board Meeting in May. Jack moved to accept the minutes. Bob seconded and all agreed.
A new membership application was received from Damon Gjording. Sibylle made a motion to accept the application. Jack seconded and all agreed. A membership renewal application was received from Christin Vallor.
Bryn proceeded with the treasury report. The checking account held $2,131.68 and the PayPal account $2,303.04. All expenses for Sondre Norberg’s clinic had been paid for (approximately $2,500 for flight and lecture as well $800 for lodging). The USBA insurance expired in June and has since been renewed. It will expire again on June 30, 2015.
Bob checked all club rifles for missing or broken parts and prepared a list of items for a possible order with Izhmash. Mike Goff decided to sell his 7-4 Izhmash rifle for $1,050 including all accessories. Bob moved to buy the rifle. Jack seconded and all others were in favor.
The club currently owns enough ammunition to get through the summer competitions (4350 rounds of Federal 711B and 3400 rounds of Aguila). CCI Standard and Aguila ammunition are becoming available again at reasonable prices starting at about $45 a box.
Greg Daly will provide Bryn with software to edit data that have already been uploaded to the WBA website. Bryn will also work on updating the home page and reformatting the results page, and will explore whether pictures can be uploaded to the Classifieds page.
The WBA used to distribute a Newsletter, which no longer exists. Bryn suggested getting a Newsletter started again on Facebook containing proactive messages, special announcements, race recaps, and other information of interest. She and Jack will discuss the format and propose a plan at the next meeting.
The next Annual Meeting is coming up in October and needs to be planned. Elections will be held for Board positions of Vice President, Treasurer, Board Member #2, and Board Member #4, and Athletes’ Representative, which are currently held by Jack, Bryn, Dave, Brian, and Sean, respectively.
The two newcomer clinics on June 7 and 8 were well received and well attended. With 27 total racers, the mass start competition on June 21 at SPAA also had high participation, especially by women.
Three more races are on the schedule for this summer:
July 19 – individual at SPAA (Washington Games VII)
August 16 – super sprint at SPAA
September 7 – individual foot race and mountain bike race at the Black Diamond gun club (BDGC)
Several work parties are needed to repair and maintain equipment or prepare the shooting ranges for competitions. The rifle racks, the trailer sides, and the new target flags need to be painted and staples need to be pulled from the paper target frames. If Bob’s schedule is tight he can move material out for a group to work on at SPAA. A work party at SPNC (leveling the firing line and range) will need to be scheduled in July or August. Bob will find out from Mike Power when he could be there with the loader and Bryn will make a bolt plate for the winch. At BDGC, weeding and preparation of the course and firing line will be needed prior to the race on September 7.
The following old business was discussed:
The WBA owns 10 club rifles that have been taken care of and cleaned by the same two people for the last years. Bob will post a message on the Yahoo site to solicit volunteers who will assume the responsibility of upkeep and cleaning of a specific rifle after each race. Alternatively, a pool of people who would be willing to take turns in cleaning all rifles once after a race could be recruited.
The movable target at SPAA is available for off-hand practice at the rifle range. Bob measured the platform that is on site for prone practice and will make a wedge-shaped addition that can be used by both right- and left-handed shooters.
Bob got the graphics for a SPNC banner from Mike Power and Tom Giboney will send the image of the SPAA logo. Another WBA banner will also be made.
The following new business was discussed:
Jack proposed to schedule future summer races on Sundays to allow for setup as well as target practice on Saturdays. The Board will consider this option for the next season.
The WBA has currently 293 fans on Facebook.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 5, at 6:30 PM.
Bob adjourned the meeting at 7:37 pm.
