A Winter Board Meeting competition presented by WBA at Other

Board of Directors Meeting
October 6, 2018
The meeting was called to order at 1:40 pm. In attendance were President Bob Vallor, Vice President Jack Whisler, Treasurer Bryn Black, Board Members Cory Hoeger and Brian Palm, and Secretary Sibylle Wilbert. Board Members Sabine Arnold and Dave Shaw, and Athletes Representative Rich McClung were unable to attend.
All attending had seen the minutes from the last Board Meeting in August. Bob moved to accept the minutes. Jack seconded and all agreed.
No new membership applications were received since the last Board Meeting.
No new Treasurerís report was available.
The annual Board election nomination period will close at 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 13. The positions up for election this year are Vice President, Treasurer, Athletes Representative, and Board Positions #2 and #4.
The 2019 winter race schedule is all set:
− Jan 6 & 7 - skiing and biathlon clinics
− Jan 12 & 13 - race weekend #1 (Mass Start & Super Sprint)
− Feb 2 & 3 - race weekend #2 (Individual & Super Sprint)
− Feb 23 & 24 - race weekend #3 (Sprint & Pursuit)
− March 9 & 10 - race weekend #4 (Individual & Sprint or Super Sprint)
− April 13 & 14 - race weekend #5 end end-of-season BBQ (Mass Start and Mixed Relay)
Other major competitions on the calendar thus far are the 22nd Biathlon World Masters Championships in Kontiolahti, Finland, March 20-24; US National Biathlon Championships in NE following World Masters Championships; and Biathlon Competitions in Casper, WY, April 4-7.
− Bob will have additional WBA, SPAA, and SPNC banners made at the Stevens Pass banner shop.
− Scott Waichler, a PSIA level 3 instructor, has offered to teach a skate skiing clinic to advanced biathlete skiers on January 20 at SPNC (approved by Mike Power). Class size is limited to 12 participants; if necessary Scott will teach a second day. As Scott will be teaching for free, Sibylle moves to award him a WBA Life Membership. Bryn seconded the motion and all agreed.
− Bryn has organized an educational biathlon summit for November 11 at the Canvas Event Space in South Seattle covering a number of critical practical topics. Class size is limited to 40 participants with 8 registrations already received. Bryn received informational material and giveaways from multiple sponsors but has not heard back from the USBA. Bob will contact Max Cobb. Supplies, such as matts, waxing materials, and a demo target, will be hauled in from SPAA storage.
The next meeting will be the Annual Membership Meeting on Thursday, October 23, at 7:00 PM at the Alibi Room in Greenwood, Seattle.
The President adjourned the meeting at 2:05 PM.
