A(n) Board Meeting presented by WBA at Private

Recap
Washington Biathlon Association
Board of Directors Meeting Minutes
March 12, 2013

The meeting was called to order at 6:35 pm. In attendance were President Bob Vallor, Vice President Jack Whisler, Treasurer Bryn Black, Board Member Cory Hoeger, and Secretary Sibylle Wilbert. Athletes Representative Sean Kato, Board Members Mike Kamansky, Brian Palm, and Dave Shaw, and Website Manager Greg Daly attended by phone.
All attending had seen the last meetings minutes. Bob moved to accept the minutes. Jack seconded and all agreed.
Bryn had received new membership applications from Barbara and Jeffrey Pullar. Bob moved to accept the applications. Jack seconded, all others agreed.
Bryn proceeded with the treasury report. The checking and PayPal accounts held $2,389.52. The savings account (aka athletes development fund) stood at $847.55.
Following a communication with Bryn on Facebook, Sondre Nordberg, a former top level biathlete from Norway and biathlon coach, agreed to hold a clinic for the WBA on dry fire training charging only travel expenses. Sondre has worked extensively in this area of performance training and recently published a book on his techniques. All agreed that inviting Sondre would be highly valuable. The clinic will be held at SPAA on June 15 and will include a two hour lecture and a practice session.
A fully equipped and lightly used 7 4 Izhmash rifle became available for $1,300.00. Since the WBA was looking for an opportunity to add an additional club rifle, the board decided to acquire the rifle following an out of meeting motion. The rifle will be outfitted with a 7 3 stock, which has been donated by Dave Anana. This purchase brings the inventory of club rifles to five right handed 7 4s, three right handed 7 3s, and each one left handed 7 3 and 7 4.
To further improve the WBA website, Greg suggested posting race distances as well as recaps. He is also working on adding historical data. Bob will send Greg distances and formats for the summer races. Greg will post the January and February Board Meeting minutes.
The winter season is drawing to an end. Twelve WBA members will be competing in the North American Biathlon Championships (NorAms) at Whistler, BC, on March 16 20. The last two WBA races are scheduled for March 23 (mass start) and 24 (modified super sprint) at SPNC.
Bob will be meeting tomorrow with the SPAA Board to finalize the proposed summer race schedule, which currently looks as follows:
Races #1 (mass start) and #2 (sprint) plus Mountain Bike race #1 (pursuit) – May 18 and 19 at TCSA in Benton City
Newcomer clinic – June 1 at SPAA in Tukwila
Sondre Nordberg dry fire clinic – June 15 at SPAA in Tukwila
Race #3 (super sprint) – June 16 at SPAA in Tukwila
Race #4 (individual, Washington Games VI) – July 20 at SPAA in Tukwila
Race #5 (mass start) plus Mountain Bike race #2 – September 15 at the Gun Club in Black Diamond
Races #6 (individual) and #7 (super sprint) plus Mountain Bike race #3 – October 12 and 13 at TCSA in Benton City

The following old business was discussed:
Bob built a cart on wheels that holds a target and zero rack for practice at SPAA. Once approved by the SPAA Board, it can be rolled out by SPAA members and their guests. At tomorrow’s visit with the SPAA Board Bob will get the target approved and its location of use established, likely on a range with a backstop. Bob will also paint the target this weekend and Jack agreed to help.
VOmax sent a fit kit of samples for us to try at the next races at SPNC. Once people had a chance to pick a size, Bob will put together an order including some excess inventory. Bob has not heard from Mike Lunenschloss regarding remaining racing suits.
Bob will take in the trailer for repair on Thursday (bearings and wiring).
The WBA has a few race medals left, which Bob will give to Betsy since we are no longer using them. Bob placed a new order for season medals.
Bryn will have name tags made for each Board Member and Jim Fletcher with their name and function.
There was no new business to discuss.
The next meeting: TBD.
Bob adjourned the meeting at 7:18 pm.
